This document is a draft written reply from the Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs to a National Assembly question (No. 3256) posed by Mr D A Kganare regarding the governance and board composition of Sedibeng Water.

• Sedibeng Water has lacked a properly constituted board since 2 February 2010. This occurred after the former Minister dismissed the board following a task team report that found the entity failed to consult stakeholders adequately when making crucial decisions, which led to the alienation of its client base.
• The appointment of a new board for Sedibeng Water was delayed because the Public Protector requested that no appointments be made until a case regarding the termination of a former board member's membership was concluded.
• While the Chief Executive Officer of Bloem Water is not the Chairperson of the Board of Sedibeng Water, the Acting Chairperson of the Board of Bloem Water is serving as the Acting Chairperson of the Board of Sedibeng Water in a caretaker capacity.
