This document is a draft written reply from the Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs to a question posed by Mr. O de Beer (COPE-WC) in the National Council of Provinces regarding water security in the Clanwilliam region.

• The Clanwilliam Dam provides domestic water to the town of Clanwilliam, industrial water to Namaqua Sands, and water to over 11,000 hectares of irrigated land via pumping and a canal network.
• The Clanwilliam Dam currently has an assured annual yield of 133 million cubic meters, though irrigation supply is currently below advisable norms for local crops.
• The Minister has approved increasing the height of the Clanwilliam Dam by 13 meters, which is expected to provide an additional 70 million cubic meters of water per year for industry, the town, and irrigation.
• Ensuring an adequate domestic water supply for the town is the responsibility of the Local Municipality as the Water Service Authority; the municipality must apply to the Department for a license if more water abstraction from the canal or dam is required.
