• To address shortages of state veterinarians and manage animal sicknesses—such as Foot-and-Mouth Disease in northern KwaZulu-Natal and Avian Influenza in the Oudtshoorn area of the Western Cape—the government intends to amend the Veterinary and Para-Veterinary Professions Act of 1982 to introduce compulsory community service for veterinarians.
