Request to the Department of Water and Sanitation for access to the Climate Change Vulnerability Risk Assessment conducted in various catchment areas in South Africa (2 November 2018)

The Centre for Environmental Rights (CER) requested access to internal reports and findings from the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) regarding Climate Change Risk and Vulnerability Assessments conducted in specific water management areas and water transfer projects.

• The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) informed the Portfolio Committee on Water and Sanitation on 11 October 2018 that Climate Change Risk and Vulnerability Assessments were carried out in the Limpopo, Olifants, Mzimvubu-Tsitsikamma, Orange, and Vaal water management areas, with additional findings for the Lesotho Highlands.
• The CER requested internal reports and findings from the DWS concerning the Climate Change Risk and Vulnerability Assessment for the Limpopo, Olifants, and Vaal areas, as well as risk and vulnerability reports for the Mokolo and Crocodile River (West): Water Augmentation Project (MCWAP) and the Lesotho Highlands water transfer projects.
