Progressive voters want action on methane and wildfires

A national survey conducted by Nanos for the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment in October 2025 found that 65.4% of Canadians view climate change as an important priority for the government. The report highlights strong support for methane regulation (64.5%) and a high sense of urgency (75.2%) regarding government action to reduce health risks associated with climate change, such as wildfires and heat waves. These sentiments are significantly more pronounced among 'progressive' voters and those who would consider voting for both the Liberal and NDP parties.

• A significant majority of Canadians prioritize climate change, with 65.4% viewing it as "Important" compared to 8.5% who view it as "Not important". This priority is even higher among Liberal/NDP swing voters, where 76.5% consider it important.
• There is strong public support for implementing new standards to regulate methane emissions from the oil and gas sector, with 64.5% of Canadians supportive and 15.3% opposed. Support reaches 78.5% among NDP/Liberal swing voters.
