The fight for a bike and pedestrian highway overpass in Montreal

The Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment (CAPE) is campaigning for the reinstatement of the 'Dalle-Parc', a proposed green overpass for pedestrians and cyclists as part of the Turcot Interchange renovation in Montreal.

• The Dalle-Parc is a proposed green overpass designed to safely connect the upper part of Montreal (Notre-Dame-de-Grâce–Westmount) with the lower part (Verdun–Pointe-Saint-Charles) across a highway and railway. The project is estimated to cost $40 million, representing 1-2% of the total $4 billion cost for the Turcot Interchange renovation.
• The Dalle-Parc was included in the initial 2010 renovation plans for the Turcot Interchange but was removed in the 2015 version issued by the Quebec Ministry of Transport (MTQ), a decision the document states the MTQ has not explained.
• Proponents argue that the Dalle-Parc would reduce pollution and greenhouse gases, provide safer access to hospitals and employment centers, and prevent cyclists from having to take a 10km detour to cover a 1km distance.
